A dual decomposition of the closest point projection in incremental elasto‐plasticity using a mixed shell finite element

چکیده

Mixed assumed stress finite elements (FEs) have shown good advantages over traditional displacement-based formulations in various contexts. However, their use incremental elasto-plasticity is limited by the need for return mapping schemes which preserve interpolation. For elastic-perfectly plastic materials and small deformation problems, integration of constitutive equation furnishes a closest point projection (CPP) involving all element parameters. In this work, dual decomposition strategy adopted to split problem into series CPPs at points level nonlinear system equations element, order simplify its solution. The tested with four nodes mixed shell FE, named MISS-4, characterized an equilibrated interpolation improves accuracy. Two strategies are express admissibility either terms resultants or point-wise Cauchy stresses. recovered elasto-plastic solution preserves namely it accurate coarse meshes recovering equilibrium path evaluating limit load showing quadratic rate convergence, as demonstrated numerical results.

On the Formulation of Closest-Point Projection Algorithms in Elastoplasticity

We present in this paper the characterization of the variational structure behind the discrete equations defining the closest-point projection approximation in elastoplasticity. Rate-independent and viscoplastic formulations are considered in the infinitesimal and the finite deformation range, the later in the context of isotropic finite strain multiplicative plasticity. Primal variational prin...

On the Formulation of Closest-Point Projection Algorithms in Elastoplasticity. Part II: Globally Convergent Schemes

This paper presents the formulation of numerical algorithms for the solution of the closest-point projection equations that appear in typical implementations of return mapping algorithms in elastoplasticity. The main motivation behind this work is to avoid the poor global convergence properties of a straight application of a Newton scheme in the solution of these equations, the socalled Newton–...

Finite element simulation of two-point incremental forming of free-form parts

Two-point incremental forming method is considered a modern technique for manufacturing shell parts. The presence of bottom punch during the process makes this technique far more complex than its conventional counterpart i.e. single-point incremental forming method. Thus, the numerical simulation of this method is an essential task, which leads to the reduction of trial/error costs, predicts th...
